Shawnee County Department of Emergency Management will host a Community Emergency Response Team training in February.(WVIR)

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County Department of Emergency Management will host a Community Emergency Response Team training in February.

Shawnee County Department of Emergency Management shared on their social media around 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19 that they cannot stress enough the importance of having citizens trained in disaster response. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training is fun, worthwhile and free.

Shawnee County Department of Emergency Management said they are hosting CERT Basic Training on Feb. 9, 10, 16 and 17. These four sessions are all required to become certified members of Shawnee County CERT. Friday session are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday sessions are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CRC Lundgren, 1020 NE Forest Ave. in Topeka, Kan.
