Avoid the Area: Collision closes SE California as police respond

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A 2-year-old has died and police remain on the scene after a collision in SE Topeka.

The Topeka Police Department responded to a fatal car accident in the 3100 block of SE California Ave. A 2-year-old female was hit by a vehicle and has been pronounced dead by officials.

Traffic was shut down in both directions and officials urged drivers to avoid the area.

The deceased has been identified as Ximena Perez, 2, of Topeka.

The Topeka Police Department said they have made contact with all individuals involved and no arrests have been made.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, TPD will present the accident findings to the District Attorney’s office for any charging consideration.
