One person taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Hi-Crest area
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A man was taken to the hospital early Friday morning after he was hit by a vehicle in the Hi-Crest area.
The Topeka Police Department responded to the area of 35th Terr. and SE Adams St. around 6:15 a.m.
They said a pedestrian, who was later identified as Robert Stan William, 41, was critically injured in the incident.
TPD has SE Adams St. blocked off in both directions, however, officials told 13 NEWS the accident happened in the southbound lanes.
There were also several clothing items scattered on the road.
Michael Craft tells 13 NEWS he witnessed the incident and that the man was in the road when he was first hit by an SUV and then a pickup truck.
“I start hearing this guy yelling and he was in his boxers,” Craft continued saying, “He was hollering, cussing, and stuff in the middle of the road, then all of a sudden I hear like a smack, so he jumped in front of that car and then his body started tumbling into the middle of the road.”
Craft said a gray pickup truck then came and ran the man over, then kept going.
However, TPD says the driver who struck William remained at the scene and was not injured. Officials say they are investigating whether another vehicle was involved.
