EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two people were taken to the hospital following a crossover crash Thursday evening on Interstate 35 near Emporia, authorities said.

The collision was reported at 4:58 p.m. Thursday on I-35, about a mile east of Emporia.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1997 Chevrolet Venture van was southbound on I-35 when the driver turned sharply to the left, causing the vehicle to skid across both southbound lanes, through the median and into the outside northbound lane.

The driver of a 2019 Ford Escape that was northbound on I-35 performed an avoidance maneuver.

However, the Chevrolet struck the Ford on the driver’s side in the outside northbound lane.

The patrol said the driver of the Ford, identified as Amanda J. Ford, 35, of Olathe, was taken to Newman hospital in Emporia with injuries that were believed to be minor.

A passenger in the Ford, Jacob T. Kissner, 30, of Olathe, also was taken to Newman hospital for treatment of possible injuries.

The patrol said both Ford and Kissner were wearing their seat belts.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Crystal A. Van Dusen, 34, of St. Louis, and passenger Matthew A. Patterson, 36, of Quenemo, were reported uninjured.

The patrol said both Van Duesen and Patterson were wearing their seat belts.
