TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -The department recognized eight members of the department for various actions taken on duty.

Two firefighters were awarded the Medal of Honor and another received the Medal of Meritorious Service.

The remaining five will receive their Certificate of Appreciation and Merit.

The five to graduation will be joining the department as soon as this Friday and they know not every day will be easy.

“We train every day to help in any circumstances that arise, we never know each day we show up for work we never know what emergencies are going to come in that day and we train constantly to achieve the outcome that we want and that the citizens expect from us as well,” said Firefighter Ryan Kellen.
