TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Bark Park at Gage Park will soon be getting a new name with a few upgrades.

Shawnee Co. Commissioners approved for Shawnee Co. Parks and Rec and Hill’s Pet Nutrition to enter into a contract for naming rights to the dog park for 10 years.

Hill’s donated $175,000 to the Parks For All Foundation to take care of planned renovations at the park.

The park will officially be named “Hill’s Bark Park at Gage Park”.

According to Parks and Rec officials, the donation will allow for the size of the Bark Park to double to create more space for large and small dogs.

The large dog section will extend into an infrequently used ball field in Gage Park and the small dog section will expand into the current large dog section.

Parks and Rec plans to add a concrete wall near one of the Bark Park’s entrances, new facing, new shade structures and new LED lights.

Improvements will be made to the existing turf.

“Our mission is really all about enriching and lengthening that special relationship between pets and people and what better place to do it, especially after the last 15 months when people really needed to get outside and mingle with their pets,” said Hill’s Vice President of Science and Technology Dave Baloga told Commissioners Thrusday.
