Santa Fe Trail wins first 3A boys golf state title in 43 years
HESSTON, Kan. (WIBW) - A dominant Round 2 by the Santa Fe Trail boys golf team Tuesday secured their first team state title in 43 years.
The Chargers entered Day 2 just two strokes ahead of second-place Cheney (331/329). A 16-stroke Santa Fe Trail advantage Tuesday (308/324) locked in first place for the Chargers.
Cheney finished second (653), followed by Trinity Academy (668), Frontenac (679) and Jeff West (683).
Trinity Academy senior Lucas Scheufler took home the individual title with a total score of 137, followed by Marysville senior Jackson Rader with 142.
Santa Fe Trail freshman Lane Workman led the Chargers individually in a three-way tie for third with Cheney’s Harrison Middleton and Hesston’s Lucas Roth.
The Chargers last won the Sand Greens 2-Man Championship in 1978.
