TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - One person is dead after they were hit by one or more vehicles along I-70 early Thursday morning.

Initial reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol say the incident happened along the eastbound lanes of the interstate sometime before 5:15 am.

Trooper Ben Gardner told 13 NEWS calls reporting the incident began flooding the Geary Co. Dispatch Center around 5:15 am.

Gardner said the person who died was a male and may have been struck by multiple vehicles.

None of the vehicles involved in the incident were on-scene when first responders arrived.

The man’s identity has not been released, and officials have not said why he may have been walking in the roadway.

As of 10:00 a.m. Thursday, one lane of eastbound I-70 near the scene remained closed while KHP investigates.

This is a developing story.
