TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local phenom has grown up.

“My heart was just telling me I’m ready to move on and take that leap.” Kansas State defensive end Wyatt Hubert said.

Ready to enter into a bigger spotlight.

“I’m ready to give it a shot at the next level.” Hubert said.

Wyatt Hubert is heading to the NFL.

“I’m super blessed and fortunate to be in the shoes I’m in right now,” Hubert said. “And for being in the shoes I will be in in the future. I’m just so excited for it and I can’t wait. "

From Thunderbird to Wildcat, Hubert’s spent his life in Northeast Kansas. Moving on means leaving behind family.

“Yeah, that was definitely a tough decision,” Hubert said. “It was the best four years of my life I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t change it for nothing.”

The NFL hopeful carries the values learned here, at home, to the Sunday gridiron.

“Kids from Kansas always kind of have a chip on their shoulder,” Hubert said. “That’s what made me so successful in high school and college. Having that chip on my shoulder has carried me a long ways. I know it’ll keep carrying me a long ways for sure.”

Every team in the league is on the clock. Hubert’s name waiting to be heard.

“They’re 32 NFL teams,” Hubert said. “I don’t mind at all where I end up. I’ll be happy to play for whichever team drafts me and wherever I go, you know, I’ll be super blessed and fortunate to be there. Wherever I go, you know I’m gonna show up and I’m gonna give it my all.”
