TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee Heights boys soccer team took the 5A Region 5 Championship Thursday with a 2-1 overtime win over Seaman.

A first-half goal by senior Sequoyah Mendez put the Thunderbirds ahead 1-0.

Shawnee Heights would carry that lead until late in the game, when Vikings' junior forward Jake Moss scored on a header to tie things up at 2-2 with two minutes to go.

In overtime, sophomore Jordan Garvin scored the game-winner for Shawnee Heights.

With the regional championship under their belt, the Thunderbirds will next play Tuesday in the 5A state quarterfinals.
