USD 253 Board of Education votes to move to phase 3 of COVID-19 learning plan
The board voted four to three in favor of the action, despite the district’s COVID-19 Advisory Committee advising against the move, according to KVOE radio.

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - USD 253 is moving forward with the next phase of its COVID-19 education plan after a close vote from the Board of Education Wednesday.
The board voted four to three in favor of the action, despite the district’s COVID-19 Advisory Committee advising against the move, according to KVOE radio.
The move comes as both the two-week community positivity rate, and new case incident rates both saw significant rises since September when the board moved into Phase two of their plan.
Phase three won’t go into effect until November 9; and it will only effect Emporia Middle School and high school...
In-person classes will now rise to 50 percent capacity and will increase to twice a week instead of the previous once a week.
