A swath of winter weather moved across Kansas Friday, the first snow of the season.

The snow began in far northwestern Kansas early Friday morning. Goodland reported more than 5 inches of snow, with fewer amounts the further east the system moved.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, most of I-70 had snow-covered roads from Western Kansas to Topeka by 1 p.m. No roads have been closed, and no major accidents have been reported due to the weather.

The first flakes began falling in the Wichita area during the noon rush hour. The large, wet flakes did not stick to roads, nor did they cause any problems for drivers.

The snow is expected to taper off by the afternoon, but will create chilly and wet conditions for Friday football games.
