Wet Fall and Weather Summary for Dodge City

October 2009 was the second coldest October on record for the Dodge City Regional Airport. The average temperature was 49.1 degrees and that was 8 degrees below normal. The coldest October was in 1925 with an average of 47.4 degrees. The average high for October 2009 was 59.8 degrees and the average low was 38.4. The highest temperature was 83 degrees on the 20th and the coldest was 26 on the 10th. Four record lows were set during the month. Record lows were set on the 3rd (30 degrees) and the 10th (26 degrees). Record lowest maximum temperatures were set on the 10th (40 degrees ) and 11th (37 degrees).

The total precipitation for the month was 3.85 inches and that was the 10th wettest October on record. That was 2.40 inches above normal. The wettest October was in 2008 with 5.00 inches. The total precipitation from January 1st through October 31st was 24.48 inches, which was 3.91 inches above normal. The first snow occurred on the 10th with only a trace recorded. The total snowfall for the month was also a trace and that was 0.5 inches below normal. The other days with trace amounts were the 11th, 14th and 30th.

The average wind speed for the month was 13.0 mph. The highest wind gust was 49 mph from the northwest and occurred on the 1st.
