National Weather Service Rates Tornado EF-2

The National Weather Service has released a preliminary report on the Tornado that touched down near Springfield, Missouri on October 17. Here is the report and path of the tornado released by the NWS:

A National Weather Service storm survey team found that an EF-2 rated Tornado touched down in Lawrence County Wednesday evening October 17, 2007 at approximately 550 PM. An EF-2 rated tornado produces estimated winds of 111 to 135 MPH. The tornado track began just north of Verona in southeast Lawrence County and moved north on a broken path to near Chesapeake in east central Lawrence County. The tornado path ranged from 50 to 150 yards wide and produced an intermittent damage path of approximately eleven miles. The tornado damaged or destroyed nine homes, a lumber mill and several barns. No injuries were reported.
