Winter is officially in the record books when talking about climate record keeping. It is defined as the months of December-February. The following is a breakdown by month of temperatures and precipitation:

December:
Average Temperature: 29° (3° below average)
Precipitation: 0.56" (-0.79")
Snowfall: 4.3" with 3.3" falling in a span of 3 days (30 year avg for December snowfall is 5.2")
Coldest Day: 2°
Warmest Day: 68°

January:
Average Temperature: 27.5° (2.2° below average)
Precipitation: 0.37" (-0.49")
Snowfall: 3.9 " (30 year avg for January snowfall is 5.3")
Coldest Day: -8° (3 days with lows below zero)
Warmest Day: 65°

February:
Average Temperature: 26.9° (7.5° below average)
Precipitation: 1.29" (-0.03")
Snowfall: 15" with 13" falling in a span of just over 24 hours (30 year avg for February snowfall is 5")
Coldest Day: -6° (2 days with lows below zero)
Warmest Day: 70°

Winter:
Average Temperature: 27.8° (21st coldest)
Precipitation: 2.22" (30th driest)
Snowfall: 25.6" (34th snowiest season)

Couple Notes:
All observations are from Billard Airport in Topeka
Records go back to 1887
Snow season is ranked differently: It is defined as July to June so technically the snowfall total and ranking for 2013-2014 isn't officially done yet if more is observed (remember snow has been observed through May)
