Topeka Fire: Spring Burning Season Begins

TOPEKA FIRE -- The Topeka Fire Department will begin taking burn permit applications on April 1st for the upcoming spring burning season, which is scheduled from April 15th through May 31st.

Applications can be made through May 24th. Access the online application through the City of Topeka’s website, www.topeka.org. On the main page locate “Click here to apply for a residential burn permit”, click on the link and fill out the application. Application can also be made by calling the Topeka Fire Department at 368-4000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Inspections of the burn site will be made before permits are issued. Materials to be burned must be piled at the site of the proposed burning before the inspection takes place, otherwise the permit may be denied. Applicants do not need to be home for the site inspection.

All applications will be processed and inspections conducted for applications received between April 1 and April 15. Due to the number of applications received, a specific date or inspection time cannot be made. After April 15, inspections will only be made on Thursdays.

For more information, contact the Topeka Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Division at 368-4026.
