Employees of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service call center in Topeka were sent home after storm damaged the building.
The state announced Friday in a news release that the storm that
struck the city overnight Thursday knocked out power to the
building and tore away a section of the roof. The building's third
floor was saturated with water, which also seeped into the second
SRS Facilities Director Bobby Kosmala says the ceiling collapsed
onto work stations in some offices.
No damage estimates were immediately available.
The call center handles reports of abuse concerning children,
adults and the disabled. Those calls were rerouted to the central
office on Friday. The state hopes to have the center open by
