TOPEKA -- AAA crews have spent the day responding to over 193 calls in Kansas for roadside assistance, about 25 percent more than the number of calls typically received on a normal Monday. Crews arrived early this morning to prepare for a long day of responding to motorists having trouble on the roadways due to recent wintry conditions.

Many calls received today continue to be dead batteries and cars that skid off roadways and need to be towed. AAA encourages drivers to be prepared for wintry weather. Drivers should keep an eye on car batteries and get them checked regularly, especially if vehicles are slow to start. It's also important to slow down, increase following distance and avoid sudden and abrupt maneuvers when driving on slippery, snow-covered roadways.

Motorists should also be ready in case of an emergency. Be sure to carry emergency supplies such as a car care kit with jumper cables, boots, a shovel, a blanket, gloves, a flashlight, hazard signs, snacks, water and a charged cell phone. AAA members in need of roadside assistance can reach AAA by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP or visiting AAA.com/roadsideassistance.

iPhone users can download the AAA Roadside app for free and request roadside service with a touch of a button.

AAA provides travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services to 53 million members nationwide. AAA is committed to keeping its members on-the-go by providing outstanding roadside assistance, valuable online resources on buying and maintaining vehicles and through the Approved Auto Repair program, which has inspected and approved over 7,500 auto repair facilities in North America.
