October Climate Summary for Topeka

October had near average temperatures in Topeka with above average precipitation. Averge high temperature was 14° warmer for the 1st half compared to the 2nd half.
If you compare 2013 to October 2012 temperatures were very similar even though average highs were about 68 for both the 1st and 2nd half of the month. Last year Topeka only received 1.42" of rain putting the month 1.61" below average.

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH TOTALED TO BE WELL ABOVE NORMAL...COMING IN AS THE 18TH WETTEST OCTOBER ON RECORD. ABOUT A THIRD OF IT...1.35 INCHES...FELL ON THE 30TH IN ASSOCIATION WITH A STRONG AND SLOW MOVING STORM SYSTEM. THIS BROKE THE RECORD FOR THE MOST
PRECIPITATION TO FALL ON THAT DAY. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINS FROM THIS SYSTEM ALSO FELL ON THE 29TH AND 31ST. THE OTHER SIGNIFICANT RAINS FELL ON THE 3RD AND 4TH AS A COLD FRONT STALLED OVER NORTHERN
KANSAS. WINTRY WEATHER MADE AN APPEARANCE AS ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM MOVED IN DURING THE MORNING HOURS OF THE 18TH. PRECIPITATION STARTED AS RAIN BUT COLD AIR WITH THE SYSTEM CAUSED TEMPERATURES TO FALL INTO THE UPPER 30S AND SOME SNOW AND ICE PELLETS MIXED IN WITH THE
RAIN.
