Driver Recued From Flood Waters

Captured on Camera: We can see how a flash stream drags a van, and its driver. Hoping to save himself, he gets out of the vehicle and is also dragged away by the current. Numerous residents from the area throw him ropes and help him get out of the water, but the car remains floating in the stream and is dragged away for several blocks. This emergency happened in the neighborhood of San Jose, in the southeast of Baranquilla, following heavy rain. The driver, Andrés López, told us of what happened…

Andres Lopez, Rescued Driver said, "The stream showed up out of nowhere and when I tried to pull out, the car practically disconnected itself and shut down on me. Then, the water started rising…I felt like I was going to die…like it was the end of the world".

Ricardo Ahumada was the one who taped the incident…

Ricardo Ahumada, Witness: "Out of nowhere, the man got out, then he got dragged away and people were screaming grab him, grab him! But no one could help him"

When Andres got out safely, another car passed by, dragged away as though it were a piece of paper. Romualdo Olmos, a resident of the area, explains that every time it rains, this stream forms and causes devastation.

Romualdo Olmos, "Victim of the flooding]: We’re at the mercy of mother nature, and it’s always the same problem"

At the same time, gale hit the municipality of Soledad and destroyed the roofs of over 80 homes…
