LAS VEGAS (AP) _ A 30-mile stretch of a California interstate is
open again, after being shut down since midday yesterday by blowing
snow.

The road remained clogged with snow and patches of ice this morning, but the Highway Patrol has begun escorting vehicles over the mountain pass in groups of about 500.

One man says it took two hours to go five miles. Charlie Crandall was lucky enough to find a hotel room last night, but he says others had to sleep in their cars.

There's also been snow today in Las Vegas, where one visitor described the sight as ``really weird.''

Forecasters said there wouldn't be any accumulation near the hotels and casinos, but that neighborhoods in the foothills several miles away got an inch or more of snow. Up to 6 inches fell overnight in Pahrump, in the high desert about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
