TOPEKA -- The City of Topeka’s Street Maintenance and Traffic Operations Division will be pre-treating streets Saturday with an anti-icing liquid in anticipation of the winter storm expected to arrive this weekend in the area.
“Seeing that current forecasts are calling for a dry snow, we will be mobilizing staff to pre-treat all primary and secondary roads on Saturday as weather permits,” said Ron Raines, division director. “This will include treating all of the downtown area including the Capitol area. We have also reminded staff that Monday is inauguration day, and we intend to make sure that the weather has as little impact as possible on this.”
Raines said Street management and supervisors intend to closely monitor the weather and mobilize staff again on Sunday before the storm actually arrives. Crews will execute additional pre-treatment if necessary and attempt to stay ahead of any bad conditions.
