(WIBW) - An outdoor warning siren apparently damaged in Friday's storms is back in working order.
Shawnee County Emergency Management Director Dave Sterbenz reports the siren in Auburn was repaired Tuesday. The county's contractor for the warning system replaced the main fuse and tests show the siren is now operational.
The problem was discovered when the sirens didn't sound when Auburn came under a tornado warning Friday night.
Emergency management believes a lightning strike or some other electrical surge caused the fuse to malfunction. They say the contractors also replaced all the back up batteries for the siren while they were on site as a preventative measure.
Sterbenz says it's believed the damage happened during Friday's storms because Auburn Fire Dept. members reported the siren functioned properly during the regular Monday test last week.
