Topeka (WIBW) - Topekans needing relief from the heat may be able to find some.
The city's “Project Neighborhood Relief” will give away free fans to those who qualify Monday July 19. This is the fifth year for the program.
To qualify, a person must be a Topeka resident at least 55 years of age or one with a disability and have an annual income of $25,860 or less for a one person household. Two-person households must have an annual income of $29,520 or less; three-persons, $33,240 or less; and four persons, $36,900 or less.
Those applying must provide proof of household income, social security card and photo identification. Those with a disability must provide documentation of the disability, such as a letter from a doctor or documentation from Social Security.
Due to extremely limited stock this year, only those applicants who come prepared with all of the identification and documents will be accepted.
The only location for fan pick up is at the Holliday Building, 620 SE Madison, Monday July 19 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., first floor.
The City plans to distribute a very limited amount of fans therefore they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“The fan giveaway is an opportunity for the City to help our citizens find relief from the summer heat,” Deputy City Manager Randy Speaker said.
