(CNN) -- Wildfires scorched two counties in central Florida on Sunday, closing a major interstate and forcing the evacuation of some coastal residents.
The Florida Highway Patrol is expected to make a determination early Monday morning whether to re-open portions of I-95 and U.S. Highway 1 for morning commuters.
In Volusia County, officials ordered the evacuation of about 400 homes near LPGA Boulevard. Firefighters took 300 animals from a shelter and placed them at a fairground nearby.
In Brevard County, three brush fires were threatening homes. The largest consumed 1,900 acres near the town of Malabar. The other two burned 180 acres in Cocoa.
On Monday morning, officials plan to call in 100 additional firefighters to battle the blazes in Brevard, said Pamela Keil with the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
