5:39PM E-mail RECEIVED FROM A VIEWER ...K4 highway at Eskridge is nearly impassable. Many vehicles are attempting to bypass I70 by taking K4. Many are having to stop in Eskridge KS. A shelter for stranded travelers has been set up at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church just South of the K4 and K99 Junction In Eskridge. Emergency officials are discouraging travel in the Eskridge area as there has been in excess of 6 inches of snow in the area and it is drifting and blowing across roadways making travel extreamly difficult.

11:23am: NWS Topeka - Also of interest: one of the storm spotters in Melvern reported sleet 1/4" in diameter--almost hail-like!

11:20am: NWS Topeka - Numerous reports of 1" snow/sleet accumulations across Osage Cty, lots of thundersnow reports from Osage to Douglas County

11:21am: NWS Topeka - Visibilities down below 1/4 mi for MUCH of east central Kansas. Things got messy awfully quickly

11:08AM....4 car accident reported on Southbound HWY 75 and Silver Lake Road. All lanes blocked.

10:43am: A few roads have been closed near the Garden City area thanks to the heavy and blowing snow. These roads include K-23 from Cimarron to Dighton, US-50 from Garden City to Cimarron, and K-156 from Garden City to Jetmore.

10:15am: Americus resident reports heavy snow and sleet; blizzard-like conditions. Thundersnow also reported.

9:40am: Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma issued a statement... snow rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, possibly mixed with some freezing rain and sleet, will spread rapidly northeastward across eastern Kansas and into northwestern Missouri / southcentral Iowa late this morning / early this afternoon.
