Fall Festival to Benefit Meriden Park Project
Gather the family and join the citizens of Meriden and surrounding communities to attend the “Pumpkins in the Park” fall festival on Sat., Sept. 28, 2013. The all-day festival taking place in the Meriden City Park on S Owen Street is a fundraiser benefiting the Meriden Park Project. Funds raised will assist in creating a new park for the Meriden, Kansas, community.
The day will kick off with a sand volleyball tournament at 8 a.m., followed by a variety of races for children and adults of all ages to compete in. Prizes will be awarded.
Festival games and activities will begin at 11 a.m., ending at 3 p.m. Attendees can purchase a bracelet for $15 and enjoy unlimited pony rides, bounce house fun and games. A bracelet will also allow one free face painting.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a mini pumpkin for Pumpkin Launching or to decorate. The first 50 kids to arrive at the festival and purchase a wristband will receive a free pumpkin. Pumpkins will be available to purchase at the event. Multiple vendors will also be offering their wares to purchase.
Starting at 3 p.m., a classic egg toss competition will begin. The event organizers will provide the eggs, but the participants must provide their aim.
A classic chili cook-off competition will begin at 4 p.m. A minimal entry fee is required. If you are interested in entering the cook-off, please email meridenparkproject@yahoo.com. Event attendees will also be able to enjoy chili at 5p.m., when the $5 chili supper begins. The meal ticket includes a bowl of chili, fixings and a beverage.
The day of fall-themed family fun will end with a free concert in the park featuring two bands and starting at 4:30 p.m. Holmes Street band will take the stage first. They feature a variety of songs and styles for all interests. At 6 p.m., the Blues Brothers will take the stage. Sam Austin and Chris Ridley, will be performing the songs of the Blues Brothers plus many other great songs by artists such as Elvis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wilson Pickett, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many more. The concert is free, but donations are welcome.

Andy and Brenda Coin Concert (benefiting the Moose Lodge of Topeka)

This will be an awesome concert featuring Andy and Brenda Coin. The husband and wife duo from Branson. Andy has sang with such greats as Kathy Mattea and Keith Whitley while Brenda sang with Charlie Pride for over 10 yrs. They sing the old standards of country you don't hear much anymore with some modern country thrown in for fun! Their voices are wonderful. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Moose Lodge here in Topeka for their organization. The doors open at 5:30 pm with concessions at that time. Pulled pork sandwiches, hotdogs and can be in a combo plate. Dessert available also. The show starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased ahead to ensure a seat. Great door prizes will be given away. Head on out for a night of great music, good food and lots of fun!!

Washburn 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk

The 2013 Fun Run and Campus Walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 28, 2013. The cost for walkers is $15, while the cost for runners in the 5K is $25. Children 12 and under can participate for free. Same-day registration for the event is an additional $5 per competitor.

Kansas Prepper Expo

Kansas Prepper Expo Fall 2013

The Fall 2013 Kansas Prepper Expo event will be held September 28, 2013 at the Jackson County 4-H building in Holton, Kans. Expo hours are from 9AM – 4PM. The admission is a free will donation at the door.

This is a survival and self-sufficiency exposition featuring everything from bushcraft to high tech solutions to homesteading.

Fifty vendors will be displaying, including Blackthorne USA. Free classes – for example, a wilderness survival lecture -- last from 45 minutes to an hour.
