Tough Enough to Wear Pink Spaghetti Dinner

The Kaw Valley Rodeo Association "Pink Committee" throws this delicious dinner to benefit K-State cancer research. It features all-you-can-eat spaghetti, bread, salad, cookies and drinks made by former Gilio’s owner Chef Drew Zink, Cox Bros. BBQ, and volunteers. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, free for kids 4 and under, and available from K-State's Johnson Cancer Research Center, 785-532-6705.

MUSEUM DAY: Metamorphosis: The Art & Science of Change

Change up your weekend routine and discover the art and science of metamorphosis. Learn about the science of the life cycles of humans, plants, and animals. How do the visual arts and artists respond to change over time? It’s Family Day at the Spencer Museum of Art and the KU Natural History Museum. Families are invited to move back and forth between the museums and explore this topic their leisure. Free & fun for all ages.

Canstruction

Canstruction will exhibit amazing, 10 x 10 feet structures made entirely of cans of food and other non-perishables. The structures will be made by seven teams: Treanor Architects, HTK Architects, Tevis Architects, Barlett and West Engineers, Architect One, Schwerdt Design Group, Inc., and the American Institute of Architecture Student Chapter from K-State. With the exception of the AIA team, all of the teams are from Topeka. When the exhibit closes, the cans are donated to Harvesters, the Community Food Network, which supplies area food banks. Canstruction is an international program of the Society of Design Administration. Local sponsors of the event are Hy-Vee, Inc., Advisors Excel, and Knox Signs and Graphics. Structures will be given awards, including a People’s Choice Award voted on by visitors to the exhibition. The Mulvane Art Museum is open from 10-7 Tuesdays, 10-5 Wednesday-Friday, and 1-4 Saturday and Sunday.

Asbury Youth Empowerment Summer Academy

What’s Up For Summer? The coolest summer program ever!!
The Asbury Youth Empowerment Summer Academy will open the doors on June 2, 2014. The program is free and will be in operation Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. We plan to keep our kids connected and focused on core academic subjects of math and reading through structured learning activities. Other activities include special speakers, Topeka Shawnee County Public Library programs, and activities, promoting STEM, arts, crafts, and exciting weekly field trips.
Applications can be picked up at Asbury Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 1196 SW Buchanan Topeka, KS starting April 9. Space and availability is limited so please return your applications as soon as possible.
