Third Annual Governor's Freedom Rally

Governor Sam Brownback invites you to join him for the Third Annual Governor’s Freedom Rally. You will join the Governor, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Secretary Robin Jennison and Kansas Department of Corrections Secretary Ray Roberts to benefit five worthy non-profit causes.
The Rally will take place in Heritage Park, Junction City. It will consist of a full day of festival-type activities, including a motorcycle tour of Fort Riley lead by Governor Brownback. More than 1,000 motorcyclists are expected to participate in this rally.

Mulvane Art Fair

Now in its 23rd year, the annual Mulvane Art Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 7 & 8, 2014, on the beautiful campus of Washburn University. The fair is open from 10-5 on Sat. and from 10-4 on Sun. Proceeds from the Mulvane Art Fair support the programs and mission of the Mulvane Art Museum.
The Mulvane Art Fair is a juried art fair that features nearly 100 artists of various media from across the state, region and country. The event also features a live music stage and exciting food options.

Canstruction will exhibit amazing, 10 x 10 feet structures made entirely of cans of food and other non-perishables. The structures will be made by seven teams: Treanor Architects, HTK Architects, Tevis Architects, Barlett and West Engineers, Architect One, Schwerdt Design Group, Inc., and the American Institute of Architecture Student Chapter from K-State. With the exception of the AIA team, all of the teams are from Topeka. When the exhibit closes, the cans are donated to Harvesters, the Community Food Network, which supplies area food banks. Canstruction is an international program of the Society of Design Administration. Local sponsors of the event are Hy-Vee, Inc., Advisors Excel, and Knox Signs and Graphics. Structures will be given awards, including a People’s Choice Award voted on by visitors to the exhibition. The Mulvane Art Museum is open from 10-7 Tuesdays, 10-5 Wednesday-Friday, and 1-4 Saturday and Sunday.

What’s Up For Summer? The coolest summer program ever!!
The Asbury Youth Empowerment Summer Academy will open the doors on June 2, 2014. The program is free and will be in operation Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. We plan to keep our kids connected and focused on core academic subjects of math and reading through structured learning activities. Other activities include special speakers, Topeka Shawnee County Public Library programs, and activities, promoting STEM, arts, crafts, and exciting weekly field trips.
Applications can be picked up at Asbury Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 1196 SW Buchanan Topeka, KS starting April 9. Space and availability is limited so please return your applications as soon as possible.
