Stop by and tour the 2014 Designers’ Showhouse this April and May, a fundraiser for ERC Resource & Referral, doing business as Child Care Aware® of Eastern Kansas, benefiting children by supporting high-quality child care options for families! This year’s home, dubbed “Wooded Serenity: Showhouse on Spring Creek Place,” is the family home of Duane and Beth Fager. It is located at 3320 SW Spring Creek Place in Topeka, just east of 33rd and Wanamaker Road. The Designers’ Showhouse and Boutique is open daily April 12 through May 11. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Showhouse is closed on Easter Sunday. Advanced tickets are $9, or $10 at the door. The last tour starts 30 minutes before closing. Children under the age of 8 will not be admitted.
Groups of 10 or more attending together may enjoy self-guided tours during normal Showhouse hours at a reduced rate. Special guided group tours are also available by appointment. Call 785-440-4519 for more information or to place your reservation.
A catered lunch is available Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Reservations to 785-440-4519 are encouraged.

Amtrak Exhibit Train

Can you hear the sound of a whistle? That’s the Amtrak Exhibit Train coming to the Topeka Amtrak Station at 500 S.E. Holliday Place on April 12-13 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Climb aboard and tour a free exhibit to learn about Amtrak’s history and catch
a glimpse into the company’s future. Displays include vintage advertising, past menus and dinnerware, period uniforms, photographs, and other items of memorabilia from Amtrak’s creation in 1971 to a model of today’s modern-sleeping accommodations and high-speed rail service displays. Interactive displays include railroad horns, trivia questions, workable signals and an engineer’s stand.
Whether you’ve been riding since the company’s beginning, or just part of it, there is something on the Exhibit Train that’s guaranteed to strike a chord.
