Kansas Athletes Bring Home Gold in State Games of America
The Sunflower State Games sent over 200 medal winners from the 2007 and 2008 Games to Colorado Springs, Col. to compete in the State Games of America July 31 – August 2, 2009

Kansas Athletes Bring Home Gold in State Games of America

Topeka, Kan. – The Sunflower State Games sent over 200 medal winners from the 2007 and 2008 Games to Colorado Springs, Col. to compete in the State Games of America July 31 – August 2, 2009. Several Kansas athletes brought home Gold Medals for their efforts including the 2008 Sunflower State Male Athlete of the Year, Matt Brungardt (Silver Lake) who won the Super Heavy Weight Division in Judo. Greg and Rachael Bachman from Emporia, KS earned gold medals in the Co-Ed Father/Daughter Doubles Tennis competition.
Also taking first place was Gregg Gore (Topeka) in Male Open Singles Tennis and Doug Nihart (Wamego) in the Freestyle Bowhunter division of Target Archery. For a complete results from the 2009 State Games of America, please visit http://www.thesportscorp.org/html/sportsCorp/SGA2009/results.html.
The State Games of America is the premier, national multi-sport event for athletes of all ages and abilities held every biennium. Medal winners from State Games nationwide earn the right to compete against other winners by matching their skills and competitive desire in a national arena.
The Sunflower State Games is a non-profit organization based out of Topeka, Kansas. The Games are held annually in July and its purpose is to promote physical fitness, personal health and well-being for Kansans of all ages and skill levels.
