Each year the Sunflower State Games name a female and male athlete of the year. The 2009 Female Athlete of the Year is Joyce Baker.

Joyce Baker started competiting in the Sunflower State Games back in 2003 after recovering from shoulder surgery. At the age of 70 Baker enjoys the games because it reminds her of the olympics. Tequilla, her 21 year old horse, and her have won many award through out the years.

Baker is busy competiting in Equestrian Barrels & Poles. But, in her spare time enjoys training World Champion horses and performing "tune ups" for family horses.
