Joan Barrett was a weekend anchor and weekday reporter for WIBW-TV in the late 1980s. At that time, WIBW Radio and Television were owned by the same company, and occasionally a TV employee would do some work for the radio station. One of Joan's favorite memories is participating in the state high school basketball championship radio coverage. She anchored the coverage from one of the sites and had a blast! Her time at Channel 13 was memorable for another reason.she met her husband, Jeff, who was the Chyron Operator in the production department at the time.
In 2002, Joan accepted a position as News Director for KWCH-TV in Wichita. Prior to that, she was the Vice President of News at KPNX in Phoenix, Arizona, and worked as a consultant and trainer for a private company. Currently, Joan is a founding member, past chair, and current board member of the Carol Kneeland Project for Responsible Journalism. She is also the Chair Elect of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. Joan lives in Wichita with her husband and two sons.
