I first began learning about weather at a young age while growing up in Shenandoah, Iowa. My dad spent his spare time as a pilot, so knowing the weather was important for his flight plans. At first I wanted to be a pilot like my dad, but then I decided my interest was in weather and made it my career.
I attended Iowa State University and graduated in May 2006 with a degree in Meteorology. While in college, I interned for the weekend meteorologists at news stations in Omaha, Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa. I was also a volunteer at the National Weather Service in Des Moines, Iowa where I researched my thesis on bow echoes. I joined the Skywatch 13 Weather Team in October 2006 as weekend meteorologist.
When I'm not forecasting the weather, I like to get outside and enjoy it! I spent a couple summers in sunny California during my college years as a Disneyland Cast Member. Summer is my favorite season because of the warm temperatures and thunderstorms. I also like spending time with my family and friends, traveling and boating. Recently, I joined the Sunflower Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) here in Topeka.
