Hey Everybody! If you would have told me when I was in middle school that I would be reporting and anchoring the sports on the same channel I grew up watching, I would have told you I'm not that lucky. Well, here I am, lucky and counting my blessings every day.
I have been with WIBW since April 2004. I began as an intern back in college, and officially joined the Channel 13 team as a photographer, before I was promoted to Weekend Sportscaster late in 2005.
I couldn't think of another job I'd rather be doing, other than actually playing the sports I get to cover. I love that I get to talk about sports for a living, and I especially enjoy the big time passion Kansans have for
Topeka is where I've called home my whole life. I started in the Washburn Rural district before transferring my freshman year across town. I graduated from Highland Park High School in 1999, where I played football, soccer, basketball, and ran track for the Scots. I was also active in the band, and dabbled in theater.
College took me away from The Capital City. I went to Emporia State, where I played basketball for the Hornets. (Well, watched mostly; but I did play a lot when we were pretty lousy). Some of my fondest memories are playing the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Spokane, Washington; and playing KU at Allen Field house. Growing up watching the Jayhawks, it was certainly a dream come true to play in "The Phog."
My parents are still in Topeka. My dad, Jim, coaches basketball at Highland Park and my mom, Gay, is active in many community programs. They also run Sheridan's Frozen Custard, and I certainly take advantage of that more than I probably should. My brothers have both moved out of the Sunflower State. Brooke lives in Montana with his wife Sara, and their two sons Trace and Kaelen. Reid and
his wife Diane live in Loveland, Colorado with their son Egan. I also have two God son's Aiden and Alex Whetstone, who live in Emporia.
During my free time, I enjoy playing ball and throwing Frisbees with my Australian Cattle Dog, Pepper, whom I think is certainly a better athlete than I was. You may recognize her from "J.B.'s Joyride." If you ever want an earful of something other than sports, just ask me about my dog. I also love to play sports (especially basketball and disc golf), work out, and lounge around playing videogames or watching movies on occasion. I'm also a compulsive movie quoter, and try to find any situation in life to pull out my catalog of useless knowledge.
