I grew up in Northeast Kansas and graduated from Jefferson West High School in Meriden. Like many small town kids, I wanted to leave home and see what was “out there,” so I packed my bags and headed to Waco, Texas to attend Baylor University. (Sic ‘Em Bears!) During my time at Baylor I had many amazing opportunities to explore my professional options. I spent a semester with a Baylor communications program living in New York City, interning for FOX News. I also used that time to work on an NYU Short Film, which was an amazing and exhausting experience! That semester helped me decide that I wanted to be a television news producer. I think anyone who wants to be in this profession has to be a little bit of a stress junkie. I loved the fact that this small group of people would gather in a conference room and pitch all these little story ideas, hunt down information and interviews, then watch it all come together and develop into something people listen to and take interest in. While interning at FOX, the executive producer of the show I worked with said to me, “The best anchors and hosts I’ve ever worked with started as producers.” So I decided I would learn how the news machine works from a few different angles.
I began working in production running prompter, camera, air control and graphics at the CBS affiliate in Waco, Texas while I finished school. During the summer before I graduated Baylor I interned at WIBW. I wrapped up my college experience with a study abroad trip to Spain. If you’ve got to graduate and enter the “real world,” might as well go out with a bang, right?
I officially joined the 13 News crew in September 2006 producing Live at Five and the weekend evening newscasts. I moved in front of the camera as a reporter in September 2008.
I love to travel and can’t wait to do more of it. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, playing sports, reading and running. You can find me at as many community races as I can sign up for! Some annual races I look forward to include The Race Against Breast Cancer, WOW Run in Lawrence, YWCA’s Race Against Racism, the Red Dog Run in Lawrence, and the Cair Paravel 5K to name a few. All benefit great causes. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any story ideas or just want to say hello!
