My name is Giang Nguyen and if you’re wondering how to pronounce that, you’re not the only one. It’s a Vietnamese name and sounds kind of like “Young Win.”
I recently moved to Manhattan, Kansas, to be near my boyfriend who is stationed at Fort Riley. I am very excited to be part of the community and the WIBW family!
Prior to moving to the Little Apple, I lived in Atlanta, where I worked for CNN for three and a half years. I started as a Video Journalist, a fancy title for a floor director and a prompter and quickly became Associate Producer and then Researcher at the international desk. It was a wonderful experience and I got to learn the production side as well as the newsgathering side of the business. My favorite times are “breaking news” times, when everyone’s shouting and your adrenaline is pumping!
It’s hard to say where home is for me – I was born in Vietnam, but my family fled when I was just two years old. I grew up in Germany and immigrated to the States after high school. I majored in business economics at UCLA and worked in consulting for a few years before I decided that journalism was my calling and so I went and got my M.S. in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University.
I love to travel, eat and try new things, so I’m thrilled to be here! I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know your stories. Please e-mail me – I would love to hear from you.
