From a network news channel in the big apple to simulated battlefields and marching in combat boots, both the Army and my pursuit of a journalism career have taken me to places I will never forget. Now, I am in the sunflower state. I joined the 13 News team in October of 2007 and I am extremely excited to be in Topeka pursuing my lifetime dream as a reporter.
I was born and raised in New York City. However, I came to Topeka by way of Columbia, South Carolina where I was the assignment editor for the NBC affiliate, WIS. While in South Carolina I also completed the Army’s Officer Basic Course on Fort Jackson. I am now a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Reserves. Hooah! When I was commissioned in the United States Army I realized that the military and the news industry have something in common, that being change…and I want to be a constant part of it.
Due to my fascination of news and the media, I attended Graduate school while at the same time participating in the ROTC program at Fordham University. I received a Masters degree in Media Studies in 2005 from Iona College and a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2003. Soon after in 2005, I started working for the NBC Network. While in the NBC page program I had the opportunity to work for the TODAY show, NBC Weather Plus, Telemundo, Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O’Brien as well as working with a host of NBC correspondents and producers.
My broadcasting career began in College where I reported for VH1’s music award nomination special in NYC and the Latin Billboard Music Awards in Miami, FL. Both gave me a bit of insight into the entertainment world….. I attended the Professional Performing Arts High School in NYC, majoring in musical theatre. I still love to sing and dance…. and catch a musical when my schedule allows.
Sharing the stories that are taking place in our community is my overall reward. It’s about giving others a voice and that is what I am here to do. If you have any story ideas you would like to share with me please feel free to email me.
