KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Kansas City Chiefs have reached a deal with cornerback Dunta Robinson. The team also announced deals with Donnie Avery, Anthony Fasano and Bryan Mattison Wednesday.
The Chiefs also scheduled a news conference Wednesday to introduce quarterback Alex Smith, who was acquired in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers as free agency opened on Tuesday.
Robinson has played in 131 games over nine NFL seasons with the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. His career numbers include 580 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 17 interceptions and 87 pass breakups.
The Chiefs are overhauling a team that went 2-14 last season, and will have the No. 1 pick in the draft.
They've signed wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and punter Dustin Colquitt to long-term deals, franchised left tackle Branden Albert, and agreed to contracts with free-agent tight end Anthony Fasano, defensive tackle Mike DeVito and backup quarterback Chase Daniel.
CHIEFS SIGN OL BRYAN MATTISON
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed offensive lineman Bryan Mattison.
Mattison (6-3, 310) has played in 19 games (four starts) in three NFL seasons with Kansas City (2012), St. Louis (2011) and Baltimore (2010). He spent two seasons (2008-09) on the Ravens practice squad before moving to the 53-man roster.
He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jets in 2008. He was a two-year captain at the University of Iowa, where he played on the defensive line totaling 171 tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss and 20.0 sacks in four seasons. He was named first-team All-State by the Associated Press at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind.
CHIEFS SIGN WR DONNIE AVERY
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed wide receiver Donnie Avery.
Avery (5-11, 200) has played in 55 games (43 starts) in four NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (2012), Tennessee Titans (2011) and St. Louis Rams (2008-09). His career numbers include 163 receptions for 2,089 yards (12.8 avg.) with 12 touchdowns. Additionally, he owns 18 carries for 108 yards (6.0 avg.) with one rushing touchdown. Avery is coming off of his best statistical season in 2012, catching 60 passes for 781 yards (13.0 avg.) with three touchdowns.
The Houston, Texas, native originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick (33rd overall) of the St. Louis Rams in the 2008 NFL Draft. Avery attended the University of Houston where he tallied 210 career receptions for 3,289 yards. He prepped at Hastings High School in Alief, Texas.
CHIEFS SIGN TE ANTHONY FASANO
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed veteran tight end Anthony Fasano.
Fasano (6-4, 255) has played in 108 games (87 starts) in seven NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins (2008-12) and Dallas Cowboys (2006-07). His career numbers include 205 receptions for 2,373 yards (11.6 avg.) with 24 touchdowns. He has seen action in three playoff contests, including two starts. One of Fasano’s best statistical seasons came in 2008 with Miami, where he recorded 34 catches for 454 yards (13.4 avg.) with seven touchdowns.
The Verona, N.J., native originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft choice (53rd overall) of the Cowboys in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played three years at Notre Dame (2003-05), tallying 92 receptions for 1,112 yards (12.1 avg.) and eight touchdowns. He prepped at Verona High School in Verona, N.J., where he played linebacker and tight end.
