Kansas City, Mo. – Washburn swept the MIAA Volleyball Athlete of the Week awards as Marissa Cox was named the MIAA Hitter and Abby Wittman the MIAA Specialist of the Week.
MIAA Hitter of the Week
Marissa Cox, RS, Washburn
Cox averaged 4.22 kills a set and hit .383 as Washburn went 4-1 last week. She hit .409 with 11 kills in Washburns sweep at Emporia State in the MIAA opener Tuesday. Saturday against Dallas Baptist she hit .500 with 10 kills in a sweep. She reached 24 kills in a five-set win over Harding. She added 0.56 blocks a set and 1.22 digs during the week. The 6-0 junior right side hitter is a native of Richmond, Kan. where she competed at Central Heights High School.

MIAA Specialist of the Week
Abby Wittman, S, Washburn
Wittman averaged 11.72 assists and 3.50 digs a set as Washburn went 4-1 last week. She reached at least 30 assists in each match and had double-doubles in three of the matches as she reached double-figure digs. She had 52 assists and 17 digs in a five-set win over Harding on Saturday. Wittman also averaged 0.39 blocks a set and had eight kills in the five matches. The 5-8 senior setter is a native of Salina, Kan. where she competed at Salina Sacred Heart High School.
