Kansas City, Mo. – Washburn’s Marissa Cox was named the MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week while Central Missouri’s Julia Bates earned MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week honors.
MIAA Hitter of the Week
Marissa Cox, RS, Washburn
Cox averaged 3.71 kills a set and hit .422 as Washburn won four matches at the Ferris State Invitational. She reached double figures in kills in all four matches on the weekend. In the opener she hit .682, fourth highest in school history, with 15 kills and no errors in 22 attempts. She hit .421 against Cal. (Pa.) later in the tournament. For the weekend she also added five blocks and 1.21 digs a set. The 6-0 junior right side hitter is a native of Richmond, Kan. where she competed at Central Heights High School.

MIAA Specialist of the Week
Julia Bates, S, Central Missouri
Bates averaged 12.08 assists per set to go along with 2.17 digs per set as the No. 8 ranked Jennies started the season 4-0. She had 145 assists on the weekend to move into seventh all-time at UCM with 4,145 assists. She also had 16 kills and seven service aces on the weekend. In the win over Minnesota-Crookston she had 42 assists, nine digs, two service aces and two kills. In the win over 23rd-ranked Adams State she had 28 assists, five kills, three digs and two aces as the Jens swept all four matches on the weekend. The 6-0 senior setter is from Leavenworth, Kan. where she competed at Lansing High School.
