TOPEKA, Kan. (wusports.com) The Ichabods will begin 2014 right where they ended last year as the 10th ranked team in the nation. The American Volleyball Coaches Association released its preseason poll Monday and the Ichabods were ranked for the 135th straight week.

This is the fifth straight year coach Chris Herron and his team started the year in the top 10. Fellow MIAA school Central Missouri is fifth and Nebraska-Kearney is ninth. The Central Region has six schools in the top 10 with Concordia-St. Paul at No. 1, Minnesota Duluth at No. 3 and Southwest Minnesota State at No. 7.

The Ichabods won their share of the MIAA title last year with a 31-6 overall record and 15-1 league record. They went to their 10th straight NCAA tournament and the 11th in Herron's 12 years with the program.

The 2014 season will begin September 5-6 with four matches at the Midwestern State Classic. The home and MIAA opener is September 16 against Emporia State at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
