AUSTIN, Texas. - The Kansas State women's golf team sits in eighth place after Monday’s first and second rounds of the Challenge at Onion Creek at the par-70, 5,885-yard Onion Creek Golf Course. As a team, the Wildcats shot 303 (+23) in both rounds and trail team leader Texas Tech by 23 strokes.
Managing 12 birdies in the first 36 holes, the Wildcats are looking to improve heading into the final round on Tuesday.
“We are capable of playing this course well,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We just need to step up tomorrow and play our kind of game.”
Junior Carly Ragains and senior Gianna Misenhelter led the Wildcats through 36 holes as both carded a 149 (+9) to sit in a tie for 21st. After shooting the lowest score in round one for the Wildcats, junior Oliva Eliasson had a rough front nine in round two, carding a 43 (+8) before settling in for a 37 (+2) on the back nine. She enters Tuesday's final round tied for 30th at 13-over par 153.
Freshman Madison Talley carded identical rounds of 79 to complete the day tied for 44th. Fellow freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol improved nine strokes in round two to finish the day tied for 52th with a 163 (+23).
Texas Tech's Elin Arvidsson leads the individual standings at 1-under par 139, which included at 67 in the second round.
The third and final round of the Challenge at Onion Creek will begin Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. (CT). Live results of the tournament can be viewed at www.birdiefire.com, while a complete recap will be posted at kstatesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
