K-State’s Chambers Named to All-Big 12 Preseason Squad
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State senior Brittany Chambers was named to the 2012-13 preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention team in an announcement by the league office on Wednesday morning. This is the second straight season Chambers has garnered preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention honors from the league’s coaches.
Chambers, a two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection at the conclusion of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, led K-State in rebounding and finished 14th in the Big 12 with 6.2 per game and finished second on the team in scoring and ranked eighth in the Big 12 with 14.0 points per game. The guard from Jordan, Minn., was one of two players in the Big 12 and one of 15 guards in the nation last season to record 400-plus points, 200-plus rebounds and 70-plus assists. She became the 12th player in school history to register consecutive seasons of 400 or more points scored.
She paced the Big 12 and ranked 50th in the nation in three-point field goals made per game (2.4). With her 80 connections from beyond the arc in 2011-12, Chambers became the second player in school history with two or more seasons with 80 or more connections from the three-point line.
Chambers, a three-time Big 12 Player of the Week recipient in her career, enters the 2012-13 season ranked 10th in school history for career points (1,378), 16th in the program’s history for career rebounds (581), 17th for career assists (241) and fourth for career 3-point field goals made (233).
The remainder of the 2012-13 preseason All-Big 12 team consisted of: Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims of Baylor, Chelsea Poppens of Iowa State, Angel Goodrich of Kansas and Aaryn Ellenberg of Oklahoma. Additional honorable mention recipients were: Destiny Williams of Baylor, Carolyn Davis of Kansas, Whitney Hand of Oklahoma, Chassidy Fussell of Texas and Asya Bussie of West Virginia.
Earning preseason Big 12 Player of the Year honors was Griner, while preseason Newcomer of the Year was awarded to Jackie Patterson of Texas Tech. The preseason Freshman of the Year was Alexis Prince of Baylor.
K-State returns six letterwinners and two starters from the 13th NCAA Tournament squad in school history. The Wildcats registered an overall record of 20-14 and a 9-9 mark in Big 12 action which resulted in a tie for fourth in the league standings. Head coach Deb Patterson, K-State’s all-time wins leader, returns to the sidelines for her 17th season in Bramlage Coliseum. Patterson will welcome in seven newcomers to her roster in 2012-13, including WBCA junior college All-American Ashlynn Knoll.
Season ticket prices for the 2012-13 K-State women’s basketball season begin at just $3 per game when fans purchase a Wildcat 4-Pack of four or more general admission tickets for $50 each. Other season ticket options include Reserved Bench and Cat Cushion tickets at $99 per seat, as well as Chairback seats for $132 each (plus a $50 donation per season ticket account to the Ahearn Fund). For the first time, K-State football and men’s basketball season ticket holders are eligible for a significant discount on general admission season tickets, which can be purchased for just $20 each.
All women’s basketball season ticket holders can participate in the roll-over ticket program for the upcoming season. Fans may redeem unused game tickets for general admission seats to future games by visiting the K-State Ticket Office at least one day prior to the game they are interested in attending.
K-State faculty and staff can purchase discounted season tickets in the Chairback sections at $110 each and Reserved Bench/Cat Cushion sections at $79 per ticket. A limited number of premium courtside and floor-level seats are also on sale for $165 each, with per-seat Ahearn Fund donations of $500 required for courtside tickets and $100 for floor-level seats.
