Four Wildcats Move To Round Of 32 In Kansas Amateur

MISSION HILLS, Kan. – Four Kansas State men’s golfers advanced past the opening round of match play in the 2013 Kansas Amateur Championship at the par-70, 6,501-yard Indian Hills Country Club on Thursday. David Klaudt, Connor Knabe, Hank Simpson, and Kyle Weldon all moved into the round of 32 and will look to continue their run through match play on Friday morning.

Klaudt, the 53rd seed in match play, upset No. 12 seed Travis Mays of Overland Park, Kan., 3 and 1. Fifth-seeded Knabe knocked off Raytown, Mo., native Steve Groom, 1-up. Simpson, the 54th seed, upset fellow Wildcat and 11th-seeded Alex Carney, 1-up. Second-seeded Weldon outlasted Don Kuehe, the oldest competitor in the field, 7 and 5.

Match play from the 2013 Kansas Amateur Championship will continue on Friday morning beginning at 7:30 a.m., and will run the entirety of the weekend with the finals scheduled for Sunday morning. Match-play pairings and results will be available at kansasgolf.org, while recaps and results will be available at kstatesports.com at the conclusion of each day’s action.
