October 23, 2013 - Emporia State soccer defeated the Washburn Ichabods 1-0 Wednesday in Topeka.
With the win the Hornets swept the two matches in the 2013 edition of the Turnpike Tussle. Emporia State defeated the Ichadbods 2-0 in September.
It's the first time Emporia State has swept Washburn in soccer since 2004.
Jordan Foutch scored her second goal of the season off a deflected corner kick with less than eight minutes left in the match. The Hornets had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Hornet goal keeper Yadira Rivera had four saves to finish with her seventh shutout of the season.
Wednesday's match was a non-MIAA contest. With the win Emporia State improves to 7-6-2 overall on the season. It's the first time since the 2005 season that Hornet Soccer has won seven matches.
Emporia State will play their final home match of the season on October 27, against Missouri Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m.
