#20 Emporia State Football Rolls To 52-21 Win

October 19, 2013 - The #20 Emporia State football team had 561 yards of total offense and picked off a season high four passes in a 52-21 win over Lindenwood on Saturday in St. Charles, Mo. It is the third straight game over 50 points for the Hornets.

The Hornets scored first on a 44 yard run by Dozie Iwaugwu with 8:31 left in the first quarter. Lindenwood answered with a 14 yard pass from Dillon Miller to Jaron Alexander to tie the game at 7-7 with 6:16 left in the quarter. Emporia State scored the next 28 points of the game on three touchdown passes from Brent Wilson to Ray Ray Davis and an Antonio Brown run as they took a 35-7 lead with 11:13 left in the third quarter.

The Lions broke the string with 23 yard pass from Miller to Jordan Gater with 9:45 left in the third. Brown answered with his second touchdown run to give the Hornets a 42-14 lead with 4:03 left in the period. Dillon then fould Alex Robinson with 1:09 left in the third on a 25 yard pass to make it 42-21. Wilson threw his fourth touchdown pass of the day to open the fourth quarter, connecting with Kavaski Ervin for a 12 yard score and 49-21 lead for Emporia State. The Hornets went over 50 when Eli Kuhns hit a 30 yard field goal with 13:04 left in the game to end the scoring.

Wilson finished the day 25 of 34 for 295 yards, four touchdowns and an interception and added 75 rushing yards on ten carries. Davis had 11 receptions for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Mitchell Foote had five catches for 50 yards while Austin Willis had three receptions for 64 yards. Brown led the rushing attack with 76 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. Iwaugwu had 68 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. As a team Emporia State racked up 256 yards on the ground and 305 through the air for 561 yards of total offense.

Defensively the Hornets got interception returns of 35 yards by Julian Dozier, 31 yards by Gary Fortune, 21 yards from Deveon Dinwiddie adn five yards from Kadeem Satchell. Aaron Matthews had four tackles, two of them sacks and forced fumble.

Emporia State has a bye week next week before travelling to Missouri Western on November 2.

Wilson is now ranked second in single season touchdown passes at Emporia State with 27, fourth in single season total offense with 2,751 and seventh in single season passing with 2,333 yards.
Davis is sixth in single season touchdown catches at Emporia State with 12 on the year.
