(September 20, 2013) -- Sporting Kansas City returns to the road after a three-game home stand to take on Toronto FC at BMO Field. The match will air live on KSMO-TV at 3 p.m. CT with coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Sporting KC was off from Major League Soccer last weekend, with the club's most recent outing coming in a midweek CONCACAF Champions League game against Real Esteli FC that resulted in a 1-1 draw at Sporting Park.
Toronto FC fell 2-0 to the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena last Saturday. With the loss, Toronto FC was officially eliminated from playoff contention. Sporting KC currently sits three points back of first place in the Eastern Conference behind only the New York Red Bulls and four points behind the Supporters' Shield leaders Seattle Sounders FC.
Saturday marks the third match between Sporting Kansas City and Toronto FC this year with each side securing one win in the 2013 regular season series to date. Toronto FC defeated Sporting KC 2-1 in the clubs' first meeting this season on March 9 at the Rogers Centre. Toronto FC striker Robert Earnshaw scored two goals in the first 21 minutes of the match to lead the Canadian side to victory. Sporting KC Designated Player Claudio Bieler cut the deficit in half in the 77th minute.
On July 13, Sporting KC earned the convincing 3-0 victory courtesy of a Soony Saad brace and a calmly placed finish by Bieler. Earnshaw and Bieler both lead their clubs in goals scored with seven and 10 respectively heading into Saturday.
Sporting KC has the best road record in MLS this season (5-5-3) and has conceded the fewest goals (13) on the road. Toronto FC has scored 17 goals at home, third fewest in MLS behind only the Columbus Crew (16) and D.C. United (14) and holds a 2-4-8 record at home this year. Saturday marks the first match for Toronto FC since hiring their new GM, Tim Bezbatchenko on Friday.
