Columbus, OHIO (WIBW)-- It's always tough to win on the road in Columbus but Sporting KC players found out it takes strength and determination just to get there.
After defeating Montreal 2-1 on the road Saturday the team planned to fly out Monday after viewing the World Cup Final Sunday.
Matt Besler adequately explains the nightmare that began.
MTL --> DC, delayed 2 hours, cancelled. MTL --> NY, delayed 4 hours. NY --> CBUS, delayed 3 hours, cancelled. #TheTerminal— Matt Besler (@mbesler) July 15, 2014
On Monday, 13 players including Besler, Dom Dwyer, CJ Sapong and Benny Feilhaber, flew to New York where the struggle continued. Feilhaber took a humorous approach.
By night time, players resorted to asking for a place to stay.
Even after a restless night sleeping in the terminal, Tuesday morning didn't provide any relief.
But, star Defender Matt Besler looked on the bright side.
And several hours later, the epic road trip of what team members dubbed, "The Stranded 13," finally came to an end after nearly 34 hours.
Sporting KC will play the Columbus Crew Wednesday July 16, at 6:30 pm.
