Washburn Rural Football Schedule
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- In 2013 injuries depleted the Washburn Rural football team but a new season, fresh outlook and healthy squad should lead to more wins.
The Junior Blues began last season 5-1 and well on their way to another post season appearance, but fell to all three district opponents and finished with a 5-4 record.
Washburn Rural brings back a talented Quarterback in Blake Peterson who has already committed to Texas State. His passing arm could be all they need for a 2014 playoff run after losing two of three district games last year by a combined 10 points in Coach Buehler's first year at the helm.
"Just looking at how we did in the district last year against Manhattan and Junction City and that we have one year of getting to know each other and the system, I don't really see why we cannot go 9-0 and get to the playoffs which is the goal. The kids chose a saying and it's unfinished business because they feel the same way about last year," said Coach Buhler.
What we did in the off season was about finishing drills. We need to finish this year because we did not last year. You'll see a lot of hard work, a lot of hustle and a lot of energy," said Quarterback Blake Peterson.
